Walk and Talk Therapy

Walk and talk therapy is an alternative to traditional counselling except you are walking while you are talking about concerns. We have found that bringing a little bit of movement enriches the counselling session and can improve the sessions.

Our feedback suggests clients are intrigued by the idea of walking therapy and as we all know that exercise is good for the body and the mind

During my time working in residential rehab for substance misuse, walking in the grounds became a way of calmness for residents to express themselves in a more comfortable way. Rather than a traditional group setting, I noticed more interaction whilst walking. This gave me the idea of seeing clients outside and offering them an alternative to traditional counselling

I have noticed a few positive reactions from walking therapy

  • It encourages a client to be more physically active for mental and physical reasons.
  • It may help a client get "unstuck" when confronting difficult issues.
  • It spurs creative, deeper ways of thinking often released by mood-improving physical activity.

 

Winchester has some of the most picturesque outdoor settings that produce sounds, scents that can help to recall memories, thoughts and feelings during the outdoor sessions.

Client reactions and instinctive responses take place in the ‘here and now’ which makes each session become far more full of emotional energy,
